King Mountain Glider Park is envisioned as a premium soaring location serving the sailplane, hang-gliding and para-glider communities. The site will have a 4,000 by 100 foot grass runway, tie down area, and camping facilities. The long term goal is to provide both aero-tow and winch launch options.
The Glider park is being developed by John Kangas.
If runway grass is mature the "Grand Opening" will be Labor Day week end 2008.

Through coordination with the FAA a "wave window" has been established allowing flights to 23,000 feet MSL. Development of a mountain wave can be seen in the above picture.

The Glide Park is located at the base of King Mountain about 1 1/2 miles from the lower hang-glider launch zone and 2 3/4 miles from the upper launch areas. The Park's closeness to the mountain should allow winch launched sailplanes to "get away" for long cross-country flights.
